Southport Cultural Centre

The Atkinson Library and Arts Centre along with the Arts Centre make up the Southport Cultural Centre. Councillors have learned about the poor state of repair of these building after a detailed condition study was carried out. It is clear that action must be taken swiftly if we are to keep this very important Town Centre Asset.
Councillor Lord Ronnie Fearn -who is responsible for this part of the council's activities -has been pushing for action. Whatever we land up doing Sefton is going to have to spend circa £7m. The opportunity exists to 'lever in' some matching capital which would allow us to create a truly first rate facility. To date an extra £4m has been raised via an additional government grant and officials are hopeful that more can be raised.
